Pop Culture Icons in Addiction Recovery to Inspire Hope in Costa Mesa

April 13 22:57 2017
“Jackass” star and NYT bestselling author Brandon Novak to join Grammy award-winning artist Sirah for an evening of inspiration and hope

In the midst of the nationwide addiction crisis, two pop culture icons are coming together to share their stories with hundreds of young people to inspire hope and show that recovery is possible. Known from MTV’s “Jackass,” Brandon Novak is a professional skateboarder and New York Times bestselling author. He will be sharing his harrowing story of addiction, redemption, and recovery and will also be holding a book signing after the event.

Hip-hop artist, Sirah, who won a Grammy for Best Dance Recording with Skrillex, will be cohosting the event, which will take place at Windward Way & Casa Capri 2787 Bristol Street Costa Mesa, CA on April 15th, 2017. There will be a press avail with both celebrities.

Brandon Novak was a talented up-and-coming skateboarder, until he got hooked on heroin. His life degraded until he became homeless and resorted to stealing and prostitution to sustain his habit. His addiction memoir, Dreamseller, is about the hell he went through with heroin and his many failed attempts to get clean until he finally reached sobriety with the help of celebrity friend, Bam Margera.

Sirah experienced a childhood full of addiction, delinquency, and homelessness. She moved from New York to Los Angeles to avoid being put into foster care after her father died of a drug overdose. Sirah, now twenty-eight years old, was an alcoholic who gave up drinking at the young age of seventeen. Sirah scraped herself up from the ground to become a versatile talent in the music industry and is an example of how it’s possible to achieve sobriety before adulthood.

“I’m grateful that Brandon and Sirah will be coming to our backyard in Costa Mesa,” said Jeremy Broderick, Founder of Windward Way Recovery, which is presenting the event. “This event will show our community that recovery is possible and works when it’s accessible. We’re at a critical point in the midst of the nation’s addiction crisis. Having these two well-known pillars in recovery add their voices to end the silence around addiction will help to ultimately heal our community and get people the help they need.”

Matt Mendoza, Founder and CEO of AddictionUnscripted.com said, “Addiction Unscripted’s mission is to create a digital crossroads for people in recovery. This event at Windward Way will show what’s possible for people who escape active addiction by sharing stories about sobriety and life in recovery.”
