This is the fourth major honor for the book.

Dr. Gerald L. Fishkin’s  latest book, The Science of Shame and Its Treatment, has been awarded the second place Silver INDIES for Best Psychology Book of the Year. The awards were announced Saturday, June 24, during a reception at the Annual American Library Association convention in Chicago. Dr. Fishkin was in attendance.

“I am truly honored win this award,” said Dr. Fishkin. “It was a pleasure to meet so many librarians and discuss how they are often on the front line when it comes to drug overdoses, something that happens frequently in libraries. Americans need to work at the addiction nightmare so many communities are facing.

“Scientists are learning that trauma, abuse, neglect, abandonment, and other chronic violations to the self in early life development, shape an individual’s inner voice into an intrinsically negative instrument, darkening his or her world permanently. These are powerful forces that often manifest through addictions.”

Dr. Fishkin is the co-host of Psyched! on the and has a practice in Long Beach, California.

Previously, The Science of Shame and Its Treatment won the IRWIN Award for Best Psychology Book of Year, won the Hoffer Award for Best Self-Help Book and was short listed for the Hoffer Grand Prize Award.
