Sharp’s twin Essential Phone is about to hit the Chinese market soon in August

July 10 21:15 2017

Back in May, when the Essential phone was unveiled, Android co-creator Andy Rubin said that the device would ship within the next 30-days. Well folks, 30-days has come and 30-days has gone without any units shipped.

The Essential phone features an edge-to-edge screen, and will ship with a brand new virtual assistant, thus far unnamed. The device comes with a Gorilla Glass 5 protected 5.71-inch screen carrying a 1312 x 2560 resolution, and an aspect ratio of 19:10. A rear-facing dual camera setup, both 13MP sensors (one RGB and the other in monochrome) is aboard as is an 8MP front-facing selfie shooter. A modular attachment turns the camera into a 360 degree panoramic shooter.

Andy Rubin’s Essential Phone was expected to appear on the market in the late June, but up to now there has been no dispatch information. While these days another similar type of Essential Phone was listed, which is a full-screen new style phone that will be released in China in August by Sharp.

Sharp is the screen supplier of Essential Phone, as well as the electronic giant, has grabbed the limelight in the past on a number of occasions with bezel less smartphones, like Sharp Aquos Crystal and Sharp Aquos Xx. Now, the company will launch a new smartphone named Aquos S2 probably.

Given the released effective pictures, we can refer that Aquos S2 might adopted the similar plan with Essential Phone: the bezel-less display hugs the central front-facing selfie shooter at the top of the device face, and the forehead is abandoned.

Although the official price has not been listed, we suppose it should be retailed at around $700, which is probably proximate to Essential Phone. Also, at this point it is not clear if Sharp will release it in the international market or not. But, we would surely love to have our hands on one, and we believe that this handset would be decent alternatives to the LG G6, Galaxy S8/ S8 Plus, and the Xiaomi Mix.
